How reliable is Websguard?

Websguard is built for consistent and reliable operation. Our systems monitor backup connectivity and service status continuously. Occasionally, external factors such as hosting provider maintenance, firewall rules, IP whitelisting changes, or updated FTP/SFTP or database credentials may temporarily affect connectivity. When an issue is detected, we notify you by email with relevant details so you can review and take action.

How secure is Websguard?

Websguard uses industry best practices to protect customer data. Backups and sensitive credentials are encrypted, and secure connections (SFTP/SSH/SSL) are used when supported by your hosting environment. While no system can guarantee absolute security, protecting customer data is a core priority.

How long has Websguard been around?

Websguard was launched in 2022 to address common backup and security challenges faced by website owners, freelancers, and businesses. Since then, we have focused on reliability, ease of use, and responsive support.

Where are the backups stored?

Backups are stored in secure cloud storage, including infrastructure provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Data may be stored across multiple geographic regions depending on the selected plan, configuration, and availability. This multi-region approach improves resilience and reliability.

Are the backups encrypted?

Yes. Backup data is encrypted at rest in cloud storage. Where supported, data transfers also use encrypted connections such as SFTP, SSH, or SSL.

How are passwords stored?

Your Websguard account password is stored using a one-way salted hash. Server credentials used for backups (FTP/SFTP or database access) are stored encrypted at rest and are used only to perform the services you configure.

I already use my hosting provider’s backup. Won’t that protect me?

Not always. Many hosting provider backups are stored within the same environment as your live website. If the server experiences a failure, misconfiguration, or security issue, those backups may also be affected. Websguard provides an independent backup layer using separate cloud storage.

Will Websguard work with my website or platform?

Websguard works with most websites and platforms, including WordPress and other popular CMS solutions, as long as you can provide the required access.
To use Websguard, the following is required:
  • Access to FTP or SFTP credentials
  • A supported database system (MySQL or MS-SQL) if database backups are needed
  • The ability to whitelist IP addresses if required by your hosting provider

How does backup work?

The initial backup retrieves your selected website files using FTP or SFTP. After the first backup, subsequent backups are typically differential, meaning only changed or new files are transferred. This reduces bandwidth usage and minimizes server load in most cases.

How does restore work?

Restores allow you to roll back your website or specific files to a previous backup point. In many cases, only selected files or folders need to be restored rather than the entire site, helping reduce downtime.

Will it slow down my server?

In most cases, no. After the initial backup, ongoing backups transfer only changes. Performance impact depends on site size, database size, and hosting resources. You can review the How It Works page for more details.

Do I need to set up cron jobs?

No. Backups and monitoring are scheduled and managed automatically.

Is it easy to use?

Yes. Most customers can connect their website and start backups within minutes. Support is available if assistance is needed.

What credentials will I need for website backups?

To add a website, you will need:
  • Website URL
  • Hostname or IP address
  • FTP or SFTP username
  • FTP or SFTP password
  • Port number
  • Root directory

How are features different between plans?

All plans include automatic daily backups, monitoring, and restore functionality. Differences between Personal, Professional, Team, and Small Business plans relate to the number of websites supported, available storage, and support level.

Can I switch plans later?

Yes. You can upgrade or change your plan at any time through the customer dashboard.

Do you offer a free trial?

Websguard offers a 14-day free trial on all current plans. You can cancel at any time during the trial to avoid being charged.

How does billing work?

All plans are billed monthly. There are no yearly or long-term billing commitments. You will not be charged until your 14-day free trial ends.

How much storage do I get?

Storage is flexible and depends on the selected plan. Storage usage is influenced by website size, number of sites, and backup retention settings. Backup data may be stored across multiple regions depending on configuration.

Can I back up multiple websites?

Yes. Multiple websites can be backed up depending on your selected plan. Team and Small Business plans are designed for managing multiple websites.

Do you back up databases?

Yes. Database backups are supported for MySQL databases and can be performed via direct connection or SSH tunneling depending on server configuration.

What credentials are required for database backups?

For database backups, you will need:
  • Database name
  • Database hostname or IP
  • Database username
  • Database password
  • Database port (usually 3306)

Will my database be locked during backup?

Websguard does not intentionally lock database tables during backups. Most modern database engines support consistent backups without locking. Very large databases or legacy storage engines may experience temporary delays during export.
